Silver is well known for its oligo dynamic action (cold sterilization). Silver acts as a photo catalyst. Nano particles cause cold injury to microbial cells and deactivates the metabolic system and inhibits further reproduction of the microbe eventually killing it.

Nano copper is known to exhibit wide range of antimicrobial activity against pathogens. Antimicrobial activity is due to its tendency to alternate between its cuprous - Cu [], and cupric - Cu [], oxidation states. The nano copper particles produce hydroxyl radicals which bind with the pathogens DNA and denature its proteins eventually killing it.
